Hold that needle doc!
Before you make a decision about having a cosmetic procedure, like Botox, it is always best to educate yourself with as many facts as possible. Why? Ever seen an episode of the reality TV show Botched? Nuff said.
What are the possible side effects is one of the first questions people should ask before proceeding. Choosing the right doctor is key, and they should be able to talk you through the risks and know how to avoid them!
Thinking twice about going under the needle now? You should be. So to give us the real 411 on the risks, we asked Dr. Leonard Tachmes, of Miami Beach Plastic Surgery Centre & Medispa to tell us the five most common side effects and why they can happen. Here is what he had to say:
The Dreaded Eyelid Droop!
Yes this can happen! "This is a major fear for many looking into Botox around the eyes," Dr. Tachmes said. "This is caused if Botox is injected too close to the upper eyelid. We are very careful in our practice to not inject in this area."
As if we didn't already have enough issues with the brows! If Botox is injected along the side of the forehead near the temple region, Dr. Tachmes told us there is a small chance that this will affect the frontal branch of the facial nerve which runs in this area.
"The anatomy of the facial nerve varies somewhat in each individual, so any Botox injection in that general area can possibly produce a droop of the lateral eyebrow," the expert explained.
"This can also occur if too much Botox is injected along the forehead region, making it difficult for the patient to raise his or her eyebrows." Tachmes says careful assessment of the patient's individual muscle anatomy and function will reduce the changes of this happening.
More potential side effects of Botox coming tommorow.
