Banana Republic and Finnish fashion and design house Marimekko have teamed up to create a limited-edition women's capsule collection for summer 2014.
The collection, which will launch exclusively at select Banana Republic locations worldwide and online beginning in late May 2014, consists of dresses, separates and accessories that are guaranteed to make a summer wardrobe "pop." Inspiration for the collection came from Marimekko's unique design of pattern and color.
"The stunning thing about Marimekko is that everyone has heard of it or has had some history with it because of the beautiful prints," said Melloney Birkett, vice president and head of Banana Republic's women's design.
The Banana Republic Marimekko Collection, which consists of about 25 pieces, blends signature items and styles from both brands. For example, Banana Republic's iconic Hampton pant and Hampton short were designed in Marimekko's heroic black and white polka dot print.
The offering is described as "a versatile summer capsule that marries culture with style." Some key apparel items, which were all developed with a blend of natural fibers, include a billowing maxi dress, a dramatic full skirt and cotton tunic with a plunging neckline. As for the accessories, some main pieces include a pair of Kivet polka dot ballet flats and vibrant printed Siirtolapuutarha zip clutches.
The items come in one of five prints, which were designed by three of Marimekko's storied designers - Aino-Maija Metsola, Maija Isola and Maija Louekari. Each of the prints - Jurmo, Kivet, Räsymatto, Siirtolapuutarha and Tamara - tell a unique story.
Prices for apparel range from $39.50 to $140, and accessories will cost anywhere between $39.50 and $98.
