UPDATE: Beyoncé once again reigned supreme over the Met Gala red carpet wearing a flesh-toned latex gown embellished with pearls, from Givenchy. She wore her hair long and straight and smokey eye makeup. Husband Jay Z was not present.

The 2016 Costume Institute Benefit Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art takes place tomorrow, Monday, May 2. This year's theme is Manus x Machina.

It's one of the most important nights on the fashion calendar, and all eyes will be on the red carpet arrivals.

For the past few years, Beyoncé, resplendent in Givenchy, has arguably been the queen of the night, arriving fashionably late, thus allowing her a solo performance, albeit with a guest appearance from husband Jay Z, on the red carpeted steps up to the Museum.

But it wasn't always that way. Back in 2008, Beyoncé attended the Met Gala for the first time. Her pale pink strapless Armani Privé gown with ruffled embellishment seemed a little creased and was not in keeping with the theme of "Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy."

Beyoncé took a break from the galas of 2009 and 2010, reappearing in 2011 at the Gala to honor the landmark exhibition, "Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty." She was so hobbled by her black and gold fishtale Emilio Pucci gown that she had to be carried up the stairs by Jay Z and her stylist, Ty Hunter. But the extra attention only boosted her profile.

It was in 2012 that Beyoncé came into her own. Attending the "Schiaparelli And Prada: Impossible Conversations" Gala, it was the first time she wore Givenchy to the event, and the first time she was the final celebrity to appear on the red carpeted step of the Met. Just four months after giving birth to daughter Blue Ivy, Beyoncé cut a dramatic figure in a black sheer sequined confection with a purple feathered tail.

As Honorary Chair for the "PUNK: Chaos to Couture," Gala in 2013, Beyoncé turned again to Ricardo Ticci of Givenchy for the evening's look. She wore a custom two-piece ensemble featuring a strapless corseted bustier with an elaborately appliquéd gold and black skirt with a high side slit and long dramatic train. She accessorized with matching thigh-high boots and gloves.

In 2014, she attended the "Charles James: Beyond Fashion"-themed gala wearing a black sheer skirted gown cut down almost to her navel, again by Givenchy. She accessorized with a half-veil and oversized earrings.

Last year, at the "China: Through The Looking Glass," exhibition benefit gala, Beyoncé shimmered in a gold lace Givenchy dress with strategically placed gemstones that showed off her killer curves.

So what will she wear this year? Perhaps something from the recent Givenchy SS16 Couture Collection?

Join us tomorrow at 6.30 p.m. as we live blog from the steps of the Metropolitan Museum prior to The Gala and view all of the red carpet arrivals.
