After 10 years in the business, David and Phillipe Blond, the duo behind The Blonds, are taking their brand in a slightly new direction.
"We're at a point now where we're starting to mature the line. We're heading in a bit of a different direction. We're going to still maintain the business that we have now, but we're to going to expand it. We're going to add special occasion, red carpet," David told us backstage before The Blonds' spring/summer 2017 runway show at Milk Studios.
"You'll see a lot of gowns tonight. There's lots of little surprises coming up," he added.
David and Phillipe celebrated their brand's 10th anniversary with a sensational runway show on Sunday night. The spring/summer collection was a mix of old and new — David said he and Phillipe revisited their signatures in celebration of their milestone anniversary but also debuted things that are new for the brand, like evening gowns and menswear.
"It's our 10th anniversary, so we really thought about what that meant to us and what our signatures are. We wanted to revisit our signatures, like platinum and tulle," he told us.
Overall, the collection was inspired by a wide range of influences from Lana Del Rey and heavy metal music to the film "Clash of the Titans." Some key items included liquid bombers, sleeveless muscle sweaters, gowns, corsets and bodysuits. The color palette consisted mainly of silver, platinum gold and nude. Laser-cut detailing, crystal embroidery, sunburst pleats and sequins helped make this another avant garde and unforgettable collection by The Blonds.
When asked what type of girl they hope to see in their latest offering, David and Phillipe named Zendaya, Kylie Jenner, FKA Twigs, Grimes and Madonna.
"All the iconic girls," Phillipe told us.
Speaking of iconic girls, celebrity attendees at the show ranged from Kelly Osbourne and her dog Polly to Dascha Polanco, Christina Milian and Ireland Baldwin.
