Nolcha Shows took over Artbeam Studios on Monday to host 13 spring/summer 2017 runway shows.
The jam-packed day kicked off with a Ones to Watch show at 11a.m. This show put the spotlight on emerging brands Jody Bell, Olivia B, New York School of Design, Just in Case, Alice Yim and Minan Wong. With the exception of Alice Yim and Minan Wong, all brands featured in the Ones to Watch runway event made their Nolcha Shows debut on Monday.
Chinese brand LU YANG by YANG LU presented its latest collection at the 2 p.m. solo show, which was followed by the main runway event at 5 p.m. This show featured Nolcha Shows newcomer Samantha Leibowitz and returning brands ACID NYC and Rohitava Banerjee.
The spring/summer 2017 edition of Nolcha Shows ended with an 8 p.m. show called the China Moment collective, which featured collections by NIKISTAVIA (customizable haute couture), Syu Syu Han (high-end women's ready-to-wear), and Cashmere Song (a range of eco-friendly, raw cashmere).
A slew of celebrities showed their support for these emerging designers throughout the day, including actress Mischa Barton, actress Jessica Lowndes, singer Teyana Taylor, basketball player Iman Shumpert, actress Fatima Ptacek, actor Tyler Hilton, "The Bachelor" star Olivia Caridi, celebrity stylist Derek Warburton, celebrity stylist Lauren Rae Levy, model Elliott Sailors, "So You Think You Can Dance" star Asaf Goren and actress Gianna Ferazi. America's Next Top Model stars Mame Adjei and Hadassah Richardson walked in the shows.
Back in 2007, Kerry Bannigan, alongside her co-founder Arthur Mandel, launched Nolcha Shows to help independent designers showcase their collections during NYFW.
Now almost a decade later, Nolcha Shows is one of the top platforms in NYC for emerging brands.
"The Nolcha Shows were born of out of the idea and need for independent fashion designers to have a reputable platform to showcase their collections during New York Fashion Week. We aim to provide a 360-degree, turnkey solution for fashion designers, offering support in hair and makeup stylists, models, public relations, production, marketing and overall business growth around the event," Bannigan told us earlier this summer.
"I have always been a big supporter of the underdog and providing resources toward their growth. I am a small town girl who dreamed of making it in the city, and I know what can be achieved by surrounding yourself with guidance and the right resources. This is the same of what the Nolcha Shows aims to provide independent fashion designers and support them to achieve their professional goals," she added.
