Caleb Johnson may be the only contestant on "American Idol" who has not yet been in the bottom two or three but his fate just might change drastically this coming week.
This is after the resident rocker called his fans "retards" for choosing Aerosmith's song "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing."
Those who have seen his performance would realize that it was definitely not his best, after all, he's a rocker and that song just didn't give him any justice. Still, luck was on his side, and of course, thanks to his thousands of fans, he has another week to stay in the competition.
That is, until he voiced out an insensitive slur during an interview with After Buzz TV. When asked about his opinion of social media, Johnson slammed his fans - the very people who have stuck by him throughout the entire competition.
"Twitter gives access to a bunch of retards to talk to me. I don't really enjoy having to see somebody telling me what song I have to sing. I think at this point of the competition, I can pick and choose my own songs and represent me. I don't need 10,000 people saying 'You should sing this, you should sing that.L Listen to me!' Fortunately guys, I'm going to listen to myself, whether you like it or not," he said.
However, let us not forget that Caleb's fans didn't just ask him to sing a particular song - they were given by the show's producers the opportunity to do so as part of the competition.
Now, Caleb's interview has gone viral on YouTube and some of his followers on Twitter reacted to what he said.
One Twitter user wrote, "@CalebPJohnson I don't appreciate being called a retard. I was a fan who occasionally wanted you to sing certain songs. WAS. Bye."
Another person wrote, "@CalebPJohnson Hug fan Caleb but having an autistic brother I lost a lot of respect for you with the "retard" comment. Not cool, bro."
Meanwhile, Caleb clarified his statement and wrote on his official Facebook page that it wasn't meant for his fans but for his haters. Really now?
So who else remembers that time when he apologized to Ryan Seacrest on the show for another mean comment? What's happening to you, bro?
