While you were probably Instagramming pictures of cocktails at happy hour or your new going-out looks this weekend, Vogue magazine was busy sharing photographs of a group of lovely models wearing ball gowns on a tour of New York City.
In an effort to promote the Met Gala, which will take place Monday night at the remodeled (and renamed!) Anna Wintour Costume Center, Vogue tapped photographer Cass Bird for an "impromptu fashion shoot" featuring models Hanne Gaby Odiele, Grace Mahary, Tilda Lindstam, Alana Zimmer and Xiao Wen Ju.
The models wore gorgeous Charles James-esque gowns by Dior, Prabal Gurung, Reem Acra, Giles and Monique Lhuillier as they explored Manhattan, stopping at various subway stations, Central Park and other locations throughout the city. The lovely ladies posed with an adorable dog, balloons and pretzels from a street vendor.
Tonight's Met Gala celebrates Charles James, who is known as one of the greatest haute couture designers in the U.S.
"He really is a one-of-a-kind designer," Harold Koda, curator in charge of the Costume Center, told WWD.
"Even if you look through the history of French haute couture and all the English couture designers, James stands out as a very idiosyncratic personality and artist and one of the few designers who, in his own lifetime, felt that his work transcended the medium."
In an attempt to make this year's event more exclusive, ticket prices have been raised to $25,000 per person. This year, the dress code is White Tie and Decorations. Lupita Nyong'o is slated to wear Prada, Zoe Saldana is being dressed by Prabal Gurung, Amanda Seyfried is wearing Givenchy, Taylor Swift is sporting J. Mendel and Lanvin is hosting a mystery celebrity.
