Just when we thought we'd gotten a bit of a reprieve from fashion's game of musical chairs comes word that another designer is leaving his house. Francesco Risso is parting ways with Marni, which is somewhat surprising since he's been the creative force behind the brand for almost 10 years. In fact, when he was appointed back in 2016 he took over from Marni's founder Consuelo Castiglioni.
Over the last nine-plus years, Risso has turned Marni into a spectacle. We mean that in the best possible way. Not only were his creations literal pieces of art, but his fashion shows were just as elaborate. There was a banquet attended by personal friends and the designer even jazzed up his bow at the end of one presentation by dressing up as a bunny. Risso definitely has fun with fashion so it'll be interesting to see where he heads next.
No replacement for Risso has been announced, but Marni's parent company the OTB Group has been cleaning house lately. Both Jil Sander and Maison Margiela recently took on new creative directors. We'll just have to wait and see who is selected to try and fill Risso's stylish shoes.
