We're coming up on that time of year when your coat is essentially your outfit. Sure, your lower half might peek out a tad, a bold hat or headband may draw some eyes and yes, your bag's still your outermost layer, but most of your fashion real estate will be occupied by your coat. Happily, this season's dominant coat trends all skew quite classic. Designers, street stylers and retailers all seem to be gravitating toward modern, streamlined versions of tried-and-true styles. Think thigh- and ankle-grazing leather coats, quilted puffers that don't overdo it on bulk, toggle coats that nod to their predecessors but come in of-the-moment tones.
