It was long ago established that there is womenswear and menswear. Originally, there was a very clear cut divide between the two. Which made it easy to know when and where to tune in depending upon your sartorial preference. But the tide, as it often does, is changing. More and more designers are favoring coed runway shows.

Brands deciding to incorporate a few women's looks into their menswear presentations and vice versa is almost commonplace. True fashion fans have probably already noticed the uptick in male models on womenswear runways. Major labels like Jacquemus, Burberry, Giorgio Armani, Coach, Thom Browne and Bottega Veneta have embraced coed runway shows. If you think about it, it actually makes total sense. The cost of staging a fashion show is ginormous so why not combine womenswear and menswear?

One of those taking advantage of the new normal is French fashion designer Marine Serre. Even if you don't recognize the name, you definitely know the designs. Serre has become rather notorious for her repeated use of crescent or moon patterns. They've basically become street style staples. Doesn't hurt that most of the patterned pieces serve as ideal layering devices.

Serre supplies both womenswear and menswear collections, but she's also a fan of the coed runway show formula. See her Fall 2024, Fall 2022, Fall 2020, Spring 2020, Fall 2019 and Spring 2019 women's presentations. As well as her Spring 2024, Fall 2023 and Spring 2023 menswear shows. Are you noticing a theme here? So it wasn't a shock to hear that she's been selected as Pitti Uomo 106's guest designer.

The Florence-based menswear extravaganza takes place from June 11 through June 14. Based on Serre's track record, it's a pretty safe bet that she'll include a few womenswear items in her lineup as well. So there are ample reasons to check it out.

"I am really excited to present my next show in Florence on the 12th of June," expresses Serre on her Instagram. "It's an honor for me and my team to be the Guest Designer of Pitti Uomo this season. We're looking forward to bringing the essence of MARINE SERRE to Florence, mixing craftsmanship our way, and shaking the lines of what's expected to be, bringing imagination at the service of transformation."

An addendum: The street style during men's fashion week is also something to behold. There's an awesome mix of people and style personalities to take in. And in some cases, even attempt to replicate.
