We've been waiting quite some time to see where Pierpaolo Piccioli would land as a result of the ongoing game of designer musical chairs. Valentino's Fall 2024 collection was his swan song after being part of the Italian fashion house for 25 years. Today, Balenciaga finally confirmed that Piccioli is its new creative director after Demna departed for Gucci.

Valentino's loss is definitely Balenciaga's gain. Piccioli's deft hand helped Valentino surge by producing unique offerings, including an all-pink collection. Not to mention crafting truly amazing haute couture creations. Demna had his own impact on Balenciaga, giving the French fashion house more of an edge and serious streetwear vibes. It will be interesting to see if Piccioli leans into the brand's current climate or transforms the label into a haute couture powerhouse.

"In all its phases, while constantly evolving and changing, Balenciaga has never lost track of the House's aesthetic values," says Piccioli. "What I am receiving is a brand full of possibilities that is incredibly fascinating. I must first and foremost thank Demna; I've always admired his vision. I couldn't ask for a better passing of the torch. This gives me the chance to shape a new version of the Maison, adding another chapter with a new story."

Piccioli begins his tenure in July, but we'll have to wait a little longer for his debut collection. It's scheduled to be unveiled in October.
